Penguins sweep the Hurricanes!

stanley cup!

(yes, that’s the replica Stanley Cup that my brother & I crafted last season)

Looks like my prediction over at Gals’ Guide is slated to come true. I just hope this doesn’t affect my relationship with my Detroit supporting friends (ahem, Blagica & Jason).

I hope the Penguins go into this with the experience they gained from last year’s finals and bring the Stanley Cup back to where it belongs.

NHL playoffs & the crazy weekend ahead.

13 05 2009
First thing’s first:

*does obligatory celebration dance!!!!*

The Pittsburgh Penguins are going to the Eastern Conference finals!!!!! The game just wrapped with the Pens dominating the Capitals 6-2. They didn’t even get a goal until the third period. Take that, Ovechkin!!

As I posted over at Gals’ Guide, I have a feeling we may have a repeat of last season’s Stanley Cup Finals: Pens Vs Red Wings. But there’s still one more series to be played. Tomorrow will decide who they will face-the Boston Bruins or the Carolina Hurricanes. My fingers are crossed for the Bruins.

In other exciting news:

Chris graduates this weekend!!!

I have to admit I’m a little nervous because this means our parents are meeting. For the first time. *gulp*

On top of that pressure, my parents and I are going to dinner with his parents, grandparents, and a few cousins. Being the savvy bride I am, I decided to take this opportunity to use our family dinner as our official engagement party. Besides, I can’t let Chris have all the attention all weekend, can I? Nope.

Especially since my birthday is in 5 days. (Yes that was a shameless plug)

Now that I think about it, I should really edit the title since the rest of the month for me is going to be pretty crazy.

So, do you have any crazy/exciting plans for the weekend?

**if you don’t, I HIGHLY suggest you go see Star Trek. You can thank me later.

My Fiancé is Cute

And here’s why:

Weekend Roundup!

21 04 2009

Sadly, another weekend has come and gone. I hate seeing them go, they’re always far too short. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind working 10 hour days if it meant I could get an extra day off.

Friday’s plans included drinks with friends and seeing a local band, I Fight Dragons at the Cubby Bear. It was my first time seeing them live and they were A-MAZING!! I never dance in public, and I was dancing my ASS off with my friends (yes, alcohol helped). My fiancé and friend Thomas pulled the plug on the night before I got too crazy. (side note: is it weird that I hang out with my personal trainer outside of training?)

Saturday’s agenda: Baking with Jamie, Emily, and Brittainy. First, can I please tell you I now have 15 pounds of fondant in my refrigerator right now? FIFTEEN POUNDS!!!  I ordered four. But whatever, I only paid $20 for it, and it will probably last me through the next 6 months. Who has a birthday coming up?? Anyone..?? Bueller..??

Anyway, we made some little red velvet cupcake things, and a 3 layer cake:

Now I’m a bit biased, but I think its quite lovely!! 3 yummy layers of yellow and red velvet cake. And it was our first time experimenting with fondant.

Those flowers? Yep, we made those out of fondant too. Although I wouldn’t recommend eating them. Think sugary play-doh. If that’s your kinda thing though, have at it.

Jamie will probably hate me for posting this but she covered that little guy in fondant and made the heart. SO CUTE (and tasty)!

Even though Sunday was only yesterday it feels like a billion years ago. The only thing I remember doing was going to personal training. I still feel like a lazy fool. Maybe it was all the cake.

So, how was your weekend? Did you do anything fun? Consume any goodies? Make a fool of yourself?

After much debate, I finally settled on a REAL domain name instead of the .wordpress extension. Not that I find anything wrong with it, I just felt it was time to be a bit more serious about my blog.

Also, I toyed with the CSS and changed the style a bit more to my liking. Doesn’t it look sparkly?? Thoughts?

Okay, that’s all for tonight. I’m actually pretty sick of looking at my blog today.

Did you know peacocks are actually called peafowl (unless you’re specifically referring to a male)? I didn’t. The last time I was at the zoo, I chased a couple around. I found it amusing, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t.

Since Chris won’t let me own one for reasons I can’t fathom, I found myself searching on Etsy for peacock themed things when I came across something I couldn’t live without: a peacock feather headband.

Cool, huh? If you know me, then you know I have a headband addiction. Now this can be added to my collection.

Luckily for me, the tax gods smiled favorably upon me this tax season. With my refund I’m paying off my registration for BlogHer Conference, and I signed up for the 20SB Ultimate Meetup as well. Not being totally irresponsible, the rest of it is going towards credit cards and personal savings.

Now that I’m thinking about it, who thinks peafowl colors would be good for a wedding? If I decide to move up my wedding date, I think they would be great for summer. Thoughts??

Nintendo + Girlfriends = Amazing Saturday Night!

19 03 2009

This past Saturday I was invited by Jamie & Jenn to spend an evening playing video games with a bunch of girls. Sweet, right??

The party was held in the West Loop Studio , which is this AMAZING space in the West Loop. Emily & I couldn’t stop saying how much we wished we lived in a space like that.

When we arrived we were all given super cute charm bracelets and at each of the four gaming stations we were given a charm. Once we collected all four charms we won a prize: a brand new Nintendo DS and Brain Age 2!!!

Emily, Jessi, and I made our rounds at each station. We got to try out Crosswords DS, Brain Age 2, Guitar Hero, and Mario Kart. Brain Age 2 made me feel really, really dumb at first, but now I’m working diligently to bring my brain age down. After munching on the delicious spread of snacks, wines, and champagne we decided to hit up the Wii Station.

We had a BLAST playing Wii bowling. There was some fierce competition, but my wii bowling skills reigned supreme.

Overall, the night was totally amazing. The games were fun, the food was yummy, and it was great to hang out with fellow gal bloggers.

Jamie and Jenn, thanks so much for hosting such an amazing party and for the invite! Nintendo, thank you for the new DS!

More amazing photos can be found here, and my less impressive photos here.

Video to follow, so keep an eye out for that!
